A New Adventure...!

"Pizza, that-a-way..." Chartres, France 2012.

Hi friends, I'm excited to share some news...That Wondrous Time has a new home on Tumblr!

The boxes are unpacked (mostly), and even though I still have some settling in to do, I just couldn't wait to invite you over. Why the move?  One BiG reason:  I get to share larger photos with you!  Please stop by, click, scroll, and make yourself at home.  I hope you'll enjoy the new view...!

Thanks for visiting me here these past few years.  I hope you'll join me on this new adventure, so please update your readers and bookmarks to my new blog address:

xoxo - Jen

Two Sides of the Same Sky

On our way to the castles we wound our way through many charming Bavarian villages.  When we spotted this little Kodak sign, Josh knew to pull over without me saying a word.  The sky played tricks with my camera, when in an instant the warm blues of spring fell into a cool winter's white.

Warm Welcome, Heidelberg, Germany 2012.

It was a rainy day in Heidelberg, and this hotel entry looked so warm and inviting...

Our First Castle

Perched high above the city, Schloss Heidelberg was the first of many castles we visited in Germany.  With the earliest part of the castle being built before 1214, the castle has a fascinating history filled with destruction and renewal.  Walls of stone were worn yet rich with beauty, and each night as the sun set, they radiated a golden glow.

Germany, Our First Days

Bad Wimpfen, Germany (Top photo); all others Heidelberg, Germany (2012).

Although I shot these photographs in Spring, I think they provide this little blog a nice transition into Autumn.  My birthday is coming up in early October, and as a gift to myself I'm planning to (finally!) dive head first into photographs from our grand adventures in Germany, Austria, and France.

It's going to be a very happy week around here, and I look forward to sharing memories of our travels with you.  Wishing you a wonderful Sunday!

Scenes from a Train Window

Thanksgiving morning, 2002, Josh and I boarded a train in California, en route to Chicago. The trip would take a couple of days, and we were terrificly excited. When we boarded the train it was nearly empty, so they offered us a Sleeper Car at a fantastic discount. We jumped at the opportunity to have a cabin of our very own. I remember that I baked two batches of cookies, Molasses and Chocolate Chip, so we'd be sure to have a tasty Thanksgiving Day dessert. As it turns out, when you get a Sleeper Car, you also get three hot meals per day in the Dining Car, including dessert. Oh well, no such thing as too many cookies right?! We were treated to a Thanksgiving feast complete with turkey and mashed potatoes, served on their finest railroad china. It was so much fun to share this special meal with complete strangers. As west met east, the scenery transformed from sunny to snowy. We spent hours gazing out the Observation Car windows, and swapping stories with fellow travel-by-train adventurers. One of my favorite Thanksgivings ever...

Chicago!

Happy Monday, I hope you had a wonderful holiday...
