Etsy Handmade Moment

Hi everyone, thought I'd take a minute to share this. It has to do with the husband, so you know, I'm kind of proud... by Eye for a Tooth Productions, a really great Bay Area film crew. They found Josh through Etsy, gave him a call and asked if he'd *star* in their video. Fun, fun... enjoy!

Red-y for the Weekend.

Apparently I'm not afraid to make that terrible play on words in front of ALL of you. My goodness, how bold I've become. I'm having a very busy Friday, leading up to a very busy weekend...leading up to a very big announcement next week!

A very happy weekend to you... I hope you do, see or feel something wonderful.

A Real Country

You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

My Friend Bob Has a Magical House

I hope that you have a friend like Bob, because he's a real gem. He reads the New York Times cover to cover every day, and is a wealth of knowledge on just about any topic. Or so it seems to me.

Over the years I've taken hundreds of photos at Bob's house. I used to look forward to staying there for days at a time, and would arrive with a purse full of film (I've never been one to rely on a camerabag.) His home is like a rotating exhibition of wondrous objects, and I never cease to be inspired. It's not that he tries to make his home so magical, it's just that he's into so many curious things. Sometimes objects are placed deliberately, and other times haphazardly, so that each time I approach his front door, I'm excited to discover what I'll find on the other side.

I met Bob almost ten years ago, when Josh rented a room in his home. Josh lived there for a couple of years, and added some touches of his own, including the blue-sky gradient in the entryway pictured below. (And, you might remember this Doll Head Gate
by day or by night.)

morning walk with an old friend

This morning I found a Polaroid camera that I hadn't seen in years. Like the genie I have always dreamed of, this little camera granted me three wishes. I grabbed my shoes, headed for the door, and it all felt just like this...

Cheers, it's Friday. I hope you find something unexpectedly wonderful today too.

San Francisco Style

Window Dressing, San Francisco

Hi photofriends, I enjoyed a wonderful week at home, with three of my favorite houseguests, my Mom & Dad, and niece Allison (who is just about to start her first year of college. woohoo!) Usually when they visit we drive all around San Francisco, and tour my parent's old playing grounds. (My Mom grew up in San Francisco and my Dad spent much of his childhood there too.) This visit we opted to stay close to home, make food, stroll the waterfront, and listen to A LOT of jazz.

Although we didn't step foot in the Big City this week, I heard dozens of stories about my family's history there. I'm so happy that my Dad actually put many of these stories on paper, in Sloat Boulevard, a book lovingly named after the street on which my Great-Grandparents lived. They built their home themselves after years of working hard, and as my Dad puts it, "the stately home stood as a beacon of family accomplishment." When we drive past the house, it's so great to hear him reminisce about time he spent there as a young boy, enjoying grandma's cooking, walking to the park, or burying and digging up trinkets in the backyard (a few pieces of such treasure may still be there today!)

So, with San Francisco on my mind, and Oakland in my site, I wish you a very happy Friday. This weekend I hope you can take time to relax, enjoy your life, and kick up your feet, San Francisco style...

Bees, Trees, and a Southern California Sunset

I spent the weekend at a most magical wedding in Southern California...

This year we've enjoyed so much time in the southerly part of our state,
I'm beginning to form my own Southern California state of mind. This state of mind may be based more in fantasy than reality, but the point is, it's filled with golden palms and perfectly tattered typeface, and it's luring me in...

skinny palms at dusk...

I returned home to read this wonderful writeup on Bees and Trees.
Thanks to Bees and Trees for taking a sincere interest in my work, and for offering such an insightful Feature on my photography.

I continue to learn from all of you, and the comments you share, so please, continue to share! I'm off to my studio to matte some photographs. One of these days I'll get around to sharing more photos from our roadtrip (I think I'm still decompressing...
